Study on Blood Pressure of Korean

Abstract
In order to determine the ranges of normal blood pressure values and to observe the aspects of their variations among Korean adults, study was done during July, 1958 through Oct. 1960.
The total number of persons examined was 24,620: 13,782 males and 5,664 females in urban areas, and 3,015 males and 2,159 females in rural areas.
Age distribution was between 15 to 70, and factors seemed to influence to blood pressure such as cardiac, renal, vascular diseases etc. were entirely excluded.
Mercury sphygmomanometer with Korotkow¢¥s auscultatory method was employed to examine the casual blood pressure values which are practically necessary in the medical field.
The conclusions of the study were summerized as follows.
1. Mean blood pressure values of Korean adults by sex and age groups were shown as Table 1 and Fig. 1.
2. Although the blood pressure values were found to be lower in female adults than those in male in general, it was observed that after 55 years of age the values in female came out slightly higher than those in male.
3. The results of examinations were interpreted statistically ; and meanf1.2829 was considered to be normal range, mean+2u to be Hypertension Lower Limit and mean2o, to be Hypotension Upper Limit.
Basing on this principle, the continuous patterns were figured out in regression lines shown as Fig. 2, 3, 4, and 5.
4. Mean blood pressure values in Korean adults were observed to be lower than those in American and this is particularly obvious after 50 years of age.
5. It was shown that the blood prc3s_are values were increasing as the weights increasing.
6. Comparing the blood pressure values of the persons in urban and rural areas whose economical standards were considered to be equal, the values in the formers were observed to be higher than those in the latters.
